World Energy Saving Day: combating environmental problems with technological solutions

Ícone de um calendário

Faced with an environmental context of increasing crises, Furukawa provides optical solutions, which reduce energy consumption by an average of 40% to 70%.

Every October 21, World Energy Saving Day is commemorated with the aim of raising awareness about the need to work together to develop policies and actions that contribute to energy efficiency and the preservation of natural resources. In this context, different environmental organizations invite governments, companies and citizens to strive for a sustainable planet that offers an opportunity for future generations to live on a healthy planet. Furukawa Solutions argues that technological advancement in connectivity and telecommunications can contribute to more responsible energy use.

The current challenge is to be able to produce and consume energy, mitigating adverse effects on the ecosystem. However, how does this problem relate to fiber optics? Energy efficiency poses the challenge of consuming and producing energy in a smart and innovative manner with the aim of mitigating the effects of climate change. In this sense, fiber optics plays a very important role. In terms of efficient and responsible consumption, traditional copper wiring consumes a total of 3.5 W per 100 meters, compared to just 1 W for a distance of 300 meters when using fiber optic cables as they conduct light beams.

Fiber optic cables are immune to electromagnetic interference, unlike copper cables, which consume a greater amount of energy and the quality of their performance is considerably lower. The latter affects the environment when fossil fuels are used to operate the cooling systems required for assembly and maintenance.

In addition, the Japanese company offers its Green solutions in which materials derived from sugar cane are used, which contribute to reducing the effects of climate change or long-term weather patterns. The materials produce less smoke and zero toxic gas emissions, are 100% recyclable and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They generate between 40% and 70% energy savings, while reducing the use of plastic by 87%.

“At Furukawa, we are committed to developing sustainable solutions and reducing the carbon footprint on the planet. We would like to highlight our commitment to offer green connectivity solutions to companies that seek to reduce their environmental impact by collaborating with socio-environmental responsibility“, says Lucas Samyn, head of pre-sales engineering in products and applications for the Southern Cone.
